T+L Reports: New Gym Perks
Published: May 2009
The eighties slogan has been replaced with "Worship your body, nourish your soul." To that end, temples of fitness are reinterpreting what it means to work out, focusing on healthy living rather than just feeling the burn. Along with treadmills, New York's Clay (25 W. 14th St.; 212/206-9200; www.insideclay.com) has a spa, a concierge, and nutritionists. At International Orange (2044 Fillmore St.; 415/563-5000) in San Francisco, yoga sessions are enhanced by massages on the redwood sundeck.
In Chicago, the British chain Holmes Place (355 E. Grand Ave.; 312/467-1111; www.holmesplace.com) has introduced its own brand of wellness to Americans. The gym-spa-yoga center has in-house child-care. Now even busy parents have no excuse for not being in shape.
