The old guard is getting a run for its money in Kennebunkport this summer. Spread across 60 acres of balsam and birch groves is Hidden Pond, which opens its doors next month; the 14 cottages have screened-in porches, outdoor showers, and details like earth-toned fabrics.

A five-minute walk from the center of town, 19th-century fixture the White Barn Inn has spruced up 11 of its 26 rooms with marble bathrooms and a palette of soft gray and green.

Husband-and-wife team Andy West and Jessica Jenkins, former New York City record industry professionals, recently debuted Daytrip Society, a three-story shop stocked with eclectic items devoted to travel and the great outdoors. Best finds: totes fashioned from recycled canvas sails.
