Dolce & Gabbana’s New Milan Cafe

Like this article?

Tired of having to traipse around Milan to make the scene at the city’s fashionable haunts, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have brought the action to their front door. Gold, the duo’s new café-restaurant, is a five-minute stroll from their central Milan showroom. The duo can frequently be found lunching on traditional mezzogiorno dishes (try the breaded swordfish with dried herbs), many inspired by Dolce’s native Sicily. Like their clothes, Gold’s interior combines eclectic retro influences (raw-cut marble walls reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright, mirrored 70’s tables) with signature tongue-in-cheek flourishes. Menus have gold eelskin covers, and miniature plasma-screen TV’s inside the WC’s play the Bond classic Goldfinger. Piazza Risorgimento; 39-02/757-7771; www.dolcegabbanagold.it; dinner for two from $211.
