MOMA’s Modern Workshops

New York City “Bauhaus 1919–1933: Workshops for Modernity” at the Museum of Modern Art (November 8–January 25, 2010). MOMA goes back to school with this large-scale exhibition on the Bauhaus, Weimar Germany’s incubator of modernity, where artists, architects, and designers like Ani Albers and Paul Klée aimed to reshape the forms of daily life. Included are both iconic works (tubular steel furniture) and the unexpected, like Marcel Breuer and Gunta Stölzl’s recently rediscovered African Chair, a primitivist throne fit for an avant-garde emperor.
