T+L Reports: Mind Your French Manors

Like this article?

When London food editor and best-selling cookbook author Orlando Murrin and his partner Peter Steggall first visited the Tarn, outside Toulouse, they fell in love with the pastoral landscape and immediately relocated to the south of France. Soon after, the pair set about restoring a 19th-century estate, Le Manoir de Raynaudes (81640 Monesties; 33-5/63-36-91-90; www.raynaudes.com; doubles from $103, including breakfast), on 13 fertile acres with a three-room guesthouse and four self-contained apartments. Though the contemporary flats come with fully stocked kitchens, few visitors will want to miss out on meals prepared by Murrin. He bases his authentic southwest French dishes (such as confit of guinea fowl with a warm salad of roasted cherries) on locally sourced produce and whatever is fresh from the garden.
