Midtown NYC’s Newest Hotel

Like this article?

With its faux fur–clad lobby, Jetsons-style leather chairs, and mod prints by fashion photographer Guy Bourdin, you might argue that New York City's much-anticipated 6 Columbus (6 Columbus Circle; 877/626-5862;ThompsonHotels.com; doubles from $495) is channeling a "Brady Bunch Goes to Central Park" episode, but its manager, Thompson Hotels, is betting that guests (many of whom probably missed Modernism the first time around) will relish the 60's nostalgia. All 88 rooms—designed by Steven Sclaroff, former director of Manhattan's Aero Studios and the man behind the look of Kate Spade stores—have Eames bedside lamps illuminating iPod docking stations, groovy backlit circular mirrors in the navy-tiled bathrooms, custom 400-count Sferra linen–dressed beds, and lots of teak paneling. Hungry? There's an outpost of downtown's perennially packed Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill right off the lobby—a one-stop lunch, dinner, and late-night rendezvous spot where you'll sip saketinis beside media moguls from neighboring Time Warner Center.
