Miami: American Automobile Art

Miami “Styled for the Road: The Art of Automobile Design, 1908–1948” at the Wolfsonian-FIU (October 16–March 14, 2010). The role of design and the visual arts in shaping American automobile culture, from the concept of “planned obsolescence” at work in the production of each year’s new model to the Mobil Oil signs dotting our nation’s highways, is the focus of this engaging exhibition, which includes more than 80 original design drawings for everything from fenders to advertising.
