Leave it to Alan Yau, the British restaurateur behind the super-cool Cantonese restaurant Hakkasan and noodle-bar chain Wagamama, to come up with the city's Next Big Thing. Soho foodies are lining up at Yauatcha, a tearoom and dim sum palace designed by Christian Liaigre. Upstairs, select from an array of French pastries (some with "Asian" fillings: the Mandarin Moka blends milk chocolate, Chinese coffee, and absinthe cream) to pair with more than 100 varieties of tea. The restaurant downstairs has just the right hints of Trader Vic's kitsch: colored lights flicker in niches set in stone walls; the ceiling twinkles with fiber-optic stars. Dishes such as prawn-and-date dumplings and scallop cheung fun, served by cheongsam-clad waitresses, are straight out of Old Hong Kong. 15 Broadwick St.; 44-207/494-8888.
