T+L Reports: Casa Montana in Mexico

Like this article?

Mineral de Pozos is not at the top of anyone's list of destinations south of the border—but that's changed, with the opening of Casa Montana, a stylish five-room inn from New Mexico transplant (and local real estate agent) Susan Montana. A onetime silver- and gold-mining center in the Sierra Gorda, Pozos was recently called a ghost town. Inexpensive properties and an authentic Mexican experience are now attracting artists and tourists, however. The inn's limestone walls are covered in bougainvillea androoms have colonial touches—four-poster beds, crystal chandeliers, and French doors. The restaurant nods to Americana (meatloaf) as well as to regional cuisine (molcajete, sirloin tips with cheese and cactus). Casa Montana, 4A Jardin Principal, Mineral de Pozos, Mexico; 52-442/293-0032; www.casamontanahotel.com; doubles from $90, including breakfast.
