Ever since the three-pound MacBook Air (apple.com; $1,799) hit the market last January, ultra-portable laptops have become the must-have travel accessory.

At less than one inch thick, the 2.87-pound Sony VAIO TT (sonystyle.com; $2,000) is the slimmest option that uses Blu-ray Disc technology (for five times more storage capacity), and its HDMI port allows you to plug into a compatible hotel room’s TV to watch your downloaded movies.

Weighing in at 2.4 pounds, Lenovo’s IdeaPad U110 (lenovo.com; $1,899) has an 11.1-inch frameless screen and facial-recognition login. This fall, the company released the no-frills S10—10.2-inch display, 2.64 pounds, for $399.

How’s this for fashion-forward?HP recently partnered with Vivienne Tam to create the HP Vivienne Tam Special Edition notebook (hp.com; available this month; price not available at press time). With its bright red-and-pink peony design and matching embroidered storage sleeve, it will be the first—and only—ultra-portable that could very well be mistaken for a clutch.
