The Brazilian scene is heating up with the release of solo albums from three native singers. The sultry-voiced 25-year-old Cibelle, who sang with the late Suba on his landmark São Paulo Confessions, fuses jazz, electronica, and samba on Cibelle (Six Degrees). • Garota Moderna (Leeds Music/Avatar) is Rosalia de Souza's homage to the great Brazilian musicians of the sixties. The jazz-inflected tracks are underlaid with an electronic dance vibe, thanks to sought-after producer Nicola Conte. • Bossa nova meets drum-and-bass on Fernanda Porto's self-titled album (Trama), which has achieved gold status in her homeland and is set to be released in the United States in February. A classically trained pianist, Porto plays every instrument (drums, saxophone, guitar) and wrote all but one of the songs.
