An onlinesurvey, developed by the editors of Travel+ Leisure, appeared on travelandleisure.com from September 15, 2011, to October31, 2011. Respondents were asked to rate their favorite 60 landmarks in aselection of categories (skyscrapers; parks and public spaces; museums;bridges; sports and performance venues; classic landmarks); each landmark waspictured and described. Classic landmarks opened in 1996 and earlier; newlandmarks opened within the last 15 years (after 1996). All subject categorieswere available for rating at all times. Respondents were asked to identifywhether they had seen the landmark; landmarks that are the most visited had thehighest number of respondents who claimed to have “seen it.” Responses werecollected and tabulated by travelandleisure.com. The survey results appeared inthe January 2012 issue of Travel +Leisure and online at travelandleisure.com/landmarks.
