T+L Reports: Just Desert | Palm Springs

As Hollywood hipsters continue to take over Palm Springs—snapping up Mid-Century houses and bolstering the martini culture—many of them are justifying their weekend escapes by opening outposts there. The owner of the restaurant Spencer's at the Mountain (701 W. Baristo Rd.; 760/327-3446; dinner for two $120) imported Los Angeles design guru Dodd Mitchell (Sushi Roku, Linq) to reimagine the Zen-Modernist space. Antiques dealers David Limburger and Bob Fisher have always plundered the town for fifties furniture, which they sell in the City of Angels. With Studio 111 (2675 N. Palm Canyon Dr.; 760/323-5104), they're keeping pieces by the usual suspects—Bertoia, Eames—in their native habitat. Filled with socialites, Palm Springs is also a natural satellite for L.A.'s Room Service (625 N. Palm Canyon Dr.; 760/318-9331), which hawks gifts and gadgets such as barbecue invitations and folding deck chairs. Angeleno clothing maven Trina Turk (891 N. Palm Canyon Dr.; 760/416-2856) opened her first freestanding shop in an Albert Frey-designed building, where you can pick up her floral resort wear and well-edited vintage finds. They're perfect for lounging by the pool at the Estrella Resort & Spa (415 S. Belardo Rd.; 800/237-3687 or760/320-4117; www.estrellapalmsprings.com; doubles from $159), sister property to Santa Monica's Viceroy, both created by hotel-designer duo Kelly Wearstler and Brad Korzen.
