T+L Reports: Italian Lessons

Like this article?

This summer, a trip to Italy can turn into a delicious learning experience. After a two-hour-plus session with the Hotel Hassler's Wine Academy (8 Vicolo del Bottino, Rome; 39-06/699-0878; www.wineacademyroma.com; $175), you'll never mistake a Super Tuscan for a Barolo again. The course ends with lunch and wine pairings in the gardens of the newly renovated institute, at the foot of the Spanish Steps. A longer excursion to vineyards in Lazio or Tuscany can also be arranged by the resident sommelier.

If chocolate is your weakness, register for a weekend with Chocotravels (39-02/733-547; www.chocotravels.com; $170); its two-day programs in Pisa, led by artisanal chocolatiers, will satisfy any sweet tooth. Should you still crave more, bite into the three-day trip to Tuscany's "Chocolate Valley," where the country's most prized bonbons are made.
