Ireland’s Newest All Suite Hotel

Like this article?

As founding president of Ritz-Carlton, hotelier Horst Schulze has long been a pioneer in the world of service. He’s now aiming to put a new stamp on luxury by creating intimate all-suite properties in Europe, Asia, Mexico, and the United States, with a personal assistant for each guest. One of the first for the brand is Capella Castlemartyr (877/247-6699 or 353-21/421-9129; capellacastlemartyr.com; doubles from $528), a sprawling country resort in Ireland’s County Cork. Spread across the 220-acre estate you’ll find a 17th-century manor house (and onetime Carmelite boys’ school); a 24,400-square-foot glass-fronted spa; an 18-hole Ron Kirby–designed golf course; and a 1,000-year-old medieval castle. Upon arrival, an assistant materializes like a latter-day Jeeves to organize activities—from falconry tutorials to private readings with local poets. In the manor, which contains 11 of the 109 rooms, a living room has velvet wing chairs, backgammon tables, and an ample supply of whiskey in the evenings.
