The Pedigree After much anticipation, the Fasano Group, in collaboration with designer Philippe Starck, has finally opened its 92-room sophomore property—a sister hotel to the four-year-old Hotel Fasano São Paulo.

The Look In contrast to the clubby vernacular of the original Fasano, Starck’s light touch provides a welcome dose of whimsy to the leather-and-wood-dominated interiors of this Rio property. Sergio Rodrigues chairs—relaxed icons of modern Brazilian design—can be found throughout; a giant pekia tree serves as a reception desk in the lobby; and an abundance of glass walls reveal the ocean beyond. The result: A hotel that reflects Rio’s legendary warmth and seduction.

The Rooms A serene extension of the hotel’s public spaces, with yellow onyx lamps, colorful woven rugs, and tree stump–inspired bedside tables. All 10 suites have balconies overlooking Ipanema’s Station 8 beach. Amenities Standard luxe—plush bathrobes, Egyptian linens, Wi-Fi, and flat-screens—with a local twist: two pairs of Havaianas flip-flops keep guests beach-ready. (A smaller size was delivered at lightning speed upon request.)

The Scene High-wattage, especially at the Baretto Londra lounge, where stilettoed cariocas wait for tables at Fasano Al Mare. Already a big player in Rio’s restaurant scene, Rogerio Fasano imported a chef from Florence’s Michelin-starred Enoteca Pinchiorri to craft Mediterranean dishes such as risotto with saffron and rock lobster.

Don’t Miss The rooftop pool with panoramic skyline views. After the lobby, it’s the next- best spot for stargazing in Rio. 80 Av. Viera Souto; 55-11/3896-4000; fasano.com.br; doubles from $450.
