At Lancôme's first stand-alone boutique in the United States, shoppers can get their lip gloss and their facials all in one pit stop. Located at the Mall at Short Hills (Rte. 24 and JFK Pkwy., Short Hills, N..J.; 973/258-0790; www.shopshorthills.com), the concept store, designed by French design team Massaud and Pouzet, is a clinical yet feminine space with five separate zones that combine spa and store. Aestheticians examine clients' complexions in the skin-care area, then address their particular needs with hands-on therapies in a private treatment room. The cosmetics section allows reluctant consumers to test-drive the latest colors and potions and indulge in a makeover before purchasing. The full range of Lancôme scents is on display in the fragrance zone, where customers lean into glass globes suspended from the ceiling for an olfactory version of surround sound technology—a welcome change from being spritz-attacked at a fragrance counter near you.
