Help! I need to renew my passport, pronto.

Trip Doctor’s Answer

Start by finding out if you are near one of the country’s 25 regional passport agencies, located in major cities such as New York and San Francisco. If so, book the first available appointment, or ask about walk-in hours—policies vary. By going straight to the source, you’ll have your passport expedited without third-party fees, so long as you can prove that your flight leaves in less than two weeks. For a three-week turnaround, ask your local post office to overnight your application, marking it “expedited”—this can shave up to a month off the processing time. If that fails, Rush My Passport takes eight days ($99); if you need it in half the time, you’ll pay a premium ($299).
