How to Get an $11 Hotel Room

What a view to wake up to

Just for today, hotel booking site Stayful is running a holiday promotion that—if played just right—can result in hotel rooms as cheap as $11 in destinations that span from London to the U.S., the Caribbean, and Canada. But as with any deal this good, a little effort is required. Here’s how to get the deepest discount.

  1. Sign up as a new customer. You’ll get an instant credit of $25 in your account.
  2. Under “Your Account,” enter the promotion code SECRETSANTA. That brings you up to $75 in credits.
  3. Now the fun begins. Plug in your destination (there are 38 cities represented on the site; standout holiday spots include St. Thomas and Palm Springs) and adjust your search parameters so that you’re seeing rooms that cost $100 or less. If you’re still left with a good number of choices, adjust the “star rating” slider to four stars and you’ll see the cream of the crop.
  4. Stayful doesn’t work like most other hotel booking sites—it allows you to submit a bid for your stay, which the property can then accept or deny. If a bid of $75 per night is accepted, you’ll only pay for taxes after your promo code and credit is applied. But calculate your risk wisely: you can only bid on three hotels in any given market per day, and once a hotel denies your bid you have to wait 24 hours to try again—by which time the Secret Santa promo will have expired.
