Three More Wild West Ski Towns to Watch

Return to main article

Set in Wyoming's Teton Range, the Grand Targhee (www.grandtarghee.com) is bare-bones basic, but it gets copious amounts of powder (500 inches a year is the norm). Rent a rustic log cabin just over the Idaho border from Grand Valley Lodging (158 N. First St. E.; 800/746-5518; www.grandvalleylodging.com; cabins from $135).

For years, Oregon's Mount Bachelor (www.mtbachelor.com) has been a relaxed, ski-in-your-jeans kind of place. Its location, high on the dry side of the Cascades, means you can practice your downhill in the morning and your golf swing after noon.

With a reputation for uncrowded, family-friendly slopes, Sun Peaks (www.sunpeaksresort.com) is the Next Big Thing in B.C., and early birds from the United States are already on the prowl for bargain real estate. Stay at one of the ski-in, ski-out condos in the stucco base village or at the Delta Sun Peaks Resort (866/552-5516; www.deltahotels.com; doubles from $219). —K.B.S.
