Hawaiian Hall’s Dazzling Renovation

The koa wood and bronze columns of Hawaiian Hall, centerpiece of the Bishop Museum, has been restored to dazzling splendor by Ralph Appelbaum Associates (known for the Holocaust Museum and the Newseum in Washington, D.C.). The three-story space now more fully expresses the rich narrative of Hawaiian history with new media displays (interactive kiosks and video montages) alongside ancient artifacts like carved temple figures vibrant feather cloaks, and poi bowls, some on display for the first time in generations.
