T+L Reports: Hamptons Hideaway

Like this article?

It's all about access in the Hamptons. And there's no better way to get on the inside track than to spend the night with a couple in the know. Year-round residents Sylvia and Gary Muller, owners of the Mill House Inn (31 N. Main St., East Hampton, N.Y.; 631/324-9766; www.millhouseinn.com; doubles from $275, including breakfast), will play concierge, chef, and event planner once you check into their 1896 Dutch Colonial, just steps from Main Street and its trendy boutiques. Guests are welcomed by the strains of Lyle Lovett and enthusiastic tail-wagging from Corry, the inn's Gordon setter; they're also given the Mullers' encyclopedic, 175-page leather-bound guide to the area (map included). The 11 rooms and suites come stocked with luxurious essentials for brisk nights: gas fireplaces, roomy bathtubs, and downy feather beds with 340-thread-count linens that promise a great night's sleep. Breakfasts, with Gary at the helm, are epic adventures in gluttony (eggnog-brioche French toast, anyone?), but it's the small details—house-made ketchup, fresh cookies around the clock—that make you feel like you've arrived.
