Great Hotel Loyalty Programs

Eager to reward repeat visitors in the wake of the recession, hotels are making loyalty programs enticing for both leisure travelers and road warriors alike.

While byzantine restrictions still plague airline frequent-flier programs, the buzzword among hotel guest-recognition plans is flexibility as more hotels make it easier to accrue—and spend—your points.


Base-level membership in the President’s Club gives you access to deeply discounted rates on the chain’s unsold rooms.


The HHonors program allows members to choose between earning double points on all stays or a free night after four stays, through June 30.


Among those leading the charge for increased flexibility is Hyatt’s Gold Passport program. Through June 30, after every second stay, members earn 5,000 points or get a free night—this in addition to the five points they earn for every $1 spent.


Too impatient to rack up enough points for a free room? Marriott Rewards now lets members use points for everything from a facial at the spa to a nightcap in the lounge. Although loyalty programs typically reserve the best perks for their top-tier members, even travelers short on status can benefit.


Preferred Guest program members now get a free night for every third stay through July 31, which can be redeemed at hotels worldwide across Starwood’s nine brands, among them the recently acquired Andaman, a Luxury Collection resort, in Malaysia, and the new W Retreat & Spa, in Vieques, Puerto Rico.
