The Place Although best known as a snow-sports mecca (Whistler is set to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games), in summer this spectacular town is an outdoors enthusiast's nirvana. There are mountain biking, hiking, rafting and golf options galore.

Fun Things

High Note Trail 866-218-9690, www.whistlerblackcomb.com. The latest addition to the Whistler Blackcomb Mountain trail system, this five-mile hiking route passes through fields of wildflowers and overlooks glacial peaks and lakes.

Whistler Blackcomb Mountain Bike Park 866-218-9690, www.whistlerbike.com. This network of more than 120 miles of lift-serviced downhill trails is a mecca for the "shredding" set. Bike rentals are available, as are guided tours and lessons.

Whistler Whitewater Rafting 888-882-8858, www.enjoywhistler.com. Choose from five different rivers, with intensities ranging from a leisurely paddle to a stirring adventure.

The Golf

Big Sky Golf and Country Club 800-668-7900, www.bigskygolf.com; $99-$159. This showpiece has wide fairways that leap and skirt around seven alpine lakes.

Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club 604-938-2095, www.fairmont.com; $108-$145. Elevation changes are the story here: The front nine goes up a mountain, and the back nine works its way down. Children under eighteen play for free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Sundial Boutique Hotel 800-661-2321, www.sundialhotel.com; from $139 per night. A fashionable yet affordable boutique hotel with forty-nine one- or two-bedroom suites, the Sundial is located in the heart of pedestrian-friendly Whistler Village.

Ric's Grill (Steak and seafood) 604-932-7427. Because you're only fifty miles from the Pacific, don't miss the chance to have ocean-caught fish at this handsome restaurant at the Crystal Lodge. Try the ahi tuna with wasabi lime butter.
