Pebble Beach Food & Wine Festival
Golfers and epicures take note: Pebble Beach Resorts will host a celebration of food and wine March 27–30. Some thirty-five renowned chefs—including Thomas Keller, Tom Colicchio and Jacques Pépin—and two hundred acclaimed winemakers will lead cooking demonstrations and wine tastings and will prepare full-course lunches and dinners. There also will be a rare-wine auction and a celebrity tournament at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Tickets to meals and other events can be purchased à la carte or as discount packages (from $995 per person). Those who buy packages are offered preferred lodging rates (from $1,700 per couple for a three-night stay). Overnight guests can arrange tee times in advance. Direct Flights to Puerto Peñasco, Mexico
You can now fly nonstop from Los Angeles to this booming Sonoran destination, which is home to the Links at Las Palomas Golf Club (lplgc.com), a dunesy layout that opened in late 2005. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, Aeroméxico Connect offers ninety-minute flights between LAX and this resort town on the northern coast of the Sea of Cortez. Round-trip fares, including taxes and surcharges, are $323. Previously, Americans had to travel there by private plane or by car (Phoenix is about four hours away).
