I saw photos of our new president teeing it up in his native Hawaii. Should I play where he did on my next trip?

Before his inauguration, Barack Obama spent the holidays with his family on the island of Oahu. He played golf at Olomana Golf Links and Mid Pacific Country Club, neither of which is a destination-quality course. If you’re traveling to Oahu, we recommend the new Ernie Els design at the Hoakalei Resort in Ewa Beach (hoakaleicountryclub.com). This course hopes to host a major Tour event in the future, but for now you can enjoy spectacular ocean vistas on fourteen holes. If you’re planning to visit Hawaiian islands—like Maui or the Big Island—with higher profile courses, check out The Golf Fanatic’s Guide to Hawaii ($22, Hot Tub Publishing). This comprehensive new book lists all the courses in the state with descriptions of holes and helpful playing tips from the pros.
