The thirteenth hole at Praia d’El Rey Golf & Beach Resort is one of more than two hundred spectacular photographs featured in David Cannon’s new book, Golf Courses: Fairways of the World (Rizzoli New York, $195). Located an hour north of Lisbon on Portugal’s Silver Coast, the 7,050-yard course is a mixture of seaside links and parkland holes. "This drivable par four is my favorite hole, both for its beauty and for the playing options available," says course designer Cabell B. Robinson. From the cliff-side tee, the thirteenth plays 330 yards downhill to a narrow green. Views of the Atlantic surf stretch for miles in the distance. Praia d’El Rey’s golf course has hosted three European Tour events since opening in 1997; surfing, a Turkish bath, tennis courts and a five-star Marriott hotel round out the resort’s amenities.
