This John Fought layout adjacent to Sand Hollow State Park in southern Utah begins with several holes that rim a massive sandstone outcropping. The second nine features five holes suspended on imposing red-rock cliffs over the desert, yielding views of distant striated mesas and the Kolob Canyons of Zion National Park. In addition to his championship eighteen, Fought designed a Scottish links–inspired nine-hole walking course with double greens, pot bunkers and a low rock wall bisecting some of the holes—perfect for a casual round.

Set amid 315 acres of verdant, rippling hillsides on the edge of campus, Washington State University’s new course has been designed in the hope that it will someday host the NCAA Championship. The holes cascade through ridges and valleys and come in a variety of lengths, from the 630-yard par-five tenth, which requires three strong shots, to the 369-yard fifteenth, a drivable downhill par four.
