Jim Engh, who is never afraid to defy convention, is creating an entirely bunkerless course as part of Four Mile Ranch, a new real estate community in Cañon City, Colorado. The layout, set to open this summer, sports a series of “hogbacks,” or inverted bunkers, composed of shale and shaped like the surrounding foothills…A little more than two hours north, on the border of Denver and Aurora, Tom Doak is designing an as-yet-unnamed municipal course owned by the Colorado men’s, women’s and junior golf associations. It’s scheduled to open in spring 2009…Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw are building a walking-only private course called the Dormie Club just north of the village of Pinehurst. The club owns the Donald Ross house, the architect’s former home beside Pinehurst No. 2, and will make it available to members for lodging and social events. The course is to open next spring.
