For years many private clubs have offered post-round rubdowns, but a growing number of clubs have recently added a full menu of sophisticated spa services, delivered in or near the locker room. Head-to-toe body treatments, facials, manicures and aromatherapy—for both him and her—are now or soon to be offered at clubs including Old Palm Golf Club and the Colony Golf & Bay Club in Florida, the Santa Lucia Preserve in California and Trump National Westchester in New York. "Our club was designed to exceed members' expectations and to make them feel as comfortable as if they were in their own living rooms," says Marisa Poston, a spokesperson for WCI Communities, which owns Old Palm. "Offering top-of-the-line spa services was a natural evolution."Spa services can increase the perceived value of a membership, maintain member spending at the club, attract more female full members and give today's time-pressed leisure-seekers one less stop to make. But don't expect an algae detox wrap should you belong to a classic old-guard club such as Cypress Point, Pine Valley or Baltusrol. "Most clubs are going that way, but they're more country clubs than golf clubs," says Baltusrol general manager Kevin Vitale. "This is a pure golf club."
