T+L Reports: America's Iconic Vistas

Majestic purple mountains, amber waves of grain, and many other iconic American images burst from the large-scale pages of These United States (Rizzoli, $175). The limited-edition book—only 5,000 copies will be printed—is as impressive as the pictures captured by Polish-born photographer Jake Rajs. It measures 12 by 16 inches, and many pages fold out to reveal breathtaking images, some more than six feet wide. There's more to Rajs, however, than just point-and-shoot panoramas. His intuitive pairing of seemingly unrelated photos (harvests of crimson cranberries in Massachusetts, cotton in Missouri, a field of Ohio sunflowers, and, yes, golden wheat in Washington State) shows common links connecting a diverse country.
