On Bravo’s new reality series First Class All the Way, viewers go behind the scenes with L.A.-based travel agent Sara Ryan Duffy, who works with some of the world’s most demanding travelers, from celebrities to CEO’s. The show—airing Monday nights at 9 p.m.—also reveals what it takes to make the cut for T+L’s highly competitive A-List, as deputy editor Laura Begley puts Duffy to the test. Here, Duffy shares some of her top travel tips.
What is the most surprising thing about your job?
Only 50 percent of what I do is about travel—the other half is psychology. Workaholics might think that a Jamaican getaway sounds ideal, but will they be able to deal with the island’s relaxed lifestyle?I think not.
Can you tell us your most over-the-top client request?
I organized a $3 million, 10-day trip to Europe for two couples, which combined a Mediterranean yacht, jets, limos, guides at every port, and private shopping jaunts to Chanel and Hermès in Paris.
What do you look for in a hotel?
I can ignore a crack in the paint if the staff is attentive. And when it comes to comfort, there’s just no excuse for a bad bed.
Where do you travel?
I love Monaco because it’s so easy to navigate; I feel like I’m at home.
