Forget the vineyards. These days, Chile has begun marketing a far less earthly attraction: paranormal activity. The country’s tourism authority is promoting the UFO Route (tours from $81 for groups of four), a mountainous strip within the southern Maule region where more than 100 UFO sightings have been reported since 1993. Rumor has it extraterrestrials favor the area in part because the Enladrillado formation, a stone plateau, makes an ideal landing pad for flying saucers.
