T+L Reports: Feed Me in St. Louis

St. Louis's Garment District is following in the footsteps of other urban industrial neighborhoods, going from grimy to glam with the opening of inventive restaurants and markets. Named for the crimson weather balloon atop the building, Red Moon (1500 St. Charles St.; 314/436-9700; dinner for two $75) delivers its twist on Eurasian fare in dishes such as red snapper with soy-ginger glaze and pineapple salsa. • Lucas Park Grille & Market (1234 Washington Ave.; 314/241-7770; dinner for two $75) draws a fashion-conscious crowd—try the lobster "martini" dish with dry-vermouth dressing—in a rustic dining room. • With its 10-foot-tall collage of brightly colored tiles, Mosaic (1101 Lucas Ave.; 314/621-6001; dinner for two $55) combines interesting ingredients to create savory bites, like scallops, leeks, and shaved beef in chimichurri sauce. • An outpost of New York's An American Place (822 Washington Ave.; 314/418-5800; dinner for two $50), located in the lobby of the 1917 Statler Hotel, showcases chef Larry Forgione's cuisine. His locally sourced ingredients inspire plates like ginger-plum–glazed spareribs with apple-fennel-radish slaw and shoestring fries with grated dried morels. • For a scenic picnic, grab artisanal cheeses, Fuji apples, and Italian salumeria from City Grocers (920 Olive St.; 314/621-0010) and head to that famous arch (not McDonald's, silly).
