This Roman-era city north of Lisbon is undergoing a renaissance, thanks to a clutch of hotel openings. The best of the four modern suites is the white-on-white Loft, with a floor-to-ceiling window that faces a private courtyard. Extras like bath products from Anne Semonin (a brand that’s rarely found outside Paris) only add to the hotel’s cachet.
