New Age retreats surrounding Palm Springs will have some serious competition this summer when the Miramonte Resort & Spa (45000 Indian Wells Lane, Indian Wells, Calif.; 800/237-2926; www.miramonteresort.com; doubles from $169), 120 miles south of Los Angeles, opens the Well. The state-of-the-art spa has more than enough activities to fill a weekend: 12 massage rooms (five with private terraces for open-air treatments), secluded outdoor showers, and two therapeutic hydrotherapy tubs. Many of the dozens of massages are geared toward couples; during the partners watsu, pairs receive a water-based shiatsu rubdown, then get tips on how to do the same to one another. Offbeat mind-body classes such as hydro "Yo Chi," a combo of yoga and tai chi, will unwind any workweek stress, and Ristorante Brissago puts the area's early-bird-special reputation to bed. DON'T MISS A morning hike at Joshua Tree National Park (www.nps.gov/jotr), a 40-minute drive from Miramonte. The three-mile-long 49 Palms Oasis trail leads to a palm-tree-lined canyon where you'll have only hummingbirds for company.

The Lake Austin Spa Resort (1705 S. Quinlan Park Rd., Austin, Tex.; 800/847-5637; www.lakeaustin.com; two-night packages from $1,990 for two) christened the 25,000-square-foot LakeHouse Spa this spring. The limestone-and-cedar structure has 30 treatment rooms, two pools, and 100 therapies (including the Texas Pecan Scrub) that use regional ingredients.
Well-heeled New Yorkers have taken the waters in Saratoga Springs since the 1930's, when the Roosevelt Bathhouse—a Georgian Revival-style building based on the baths at Baden-Baden—made its debut. The Roosevelt, part of the Gideon Putnam Resort & Spa (24 Gideon Putnam Rd.; 800/732-1560; www.gideonputnam.com; doubles from $165), reopens this month with a 13,000-square-foot spa that includes a fitness center and 42 private rooms.
At Brentwood Bay Lodge & Spa (849 Verdier Ave., Victoria, B.C.; 888/544-2079; www.brentwoodbaylodge.com; doubles from $356), treatments range from a granite stone massage to vinotherapy body wraps made with local grapes; 33 oceanfront suites have balconies and views of Saanich Inlet sunsets.
