Hipmunk shares the cities where the hotels are cheaper in the summer—and the ones that more than double in price.

It’s no surprise that hotel rates increase in certain cities during summer months—but there are also some major summer hotel discounts to be found … if you know where to look. According to travel planning site Hipmunk, the average traveler in the U.S. spends $167 a night at a hotel during the summer months.

Turns out you can get by much cheaper, depending on the state you’re visiting. Hipmunk—the same website that took a look at how Republicans and Democrats travel—put together a handy infographic charting the least and most expensive cities to lay your head down in during the summer, including the locations with the biggest discounts in hotel rates during the warmer months.
