Germany is known for hotels that go above and beyond (see: Hotel im Wasserturm), and in Munich, the Belle Époque-inspired Charles Hotel is offering a special treat for James Bond fans that could be the most insane hotel package we’ve heard yet.
The program is called “Be James Bond for a Day,” and, frankly, it’s not for the light-hearted. In fact, the experience could fairly be categorized as a work of site-specific interactive theater, with elaborate plot twists and scene changes, all coordinated by a local media and event agency.
As the hotel explains:
“The adventure begins at the hotel, where an intruder will suddenly leave an encoded message in the guest’s room. By helicopter, the guest will be flown up into the mountains, where—in addition to a cable car ride, a lunch followed by a massage and a visit to the casino—there is plenty of action in store.”
OK, fine. But there’s more: since “the villain and his helpers will be waiting in the cable car station,” on the way back down the mountain, the guest must improvise an alternate descent—which, in true Bond fashion, happens to be paragliding. Oh, and to complete the mission, a secret USB stick has to be retrieved.
Is your head spinning yet? Usually, a hotel will up the ante with a private meal served on the beach, or maybe a sound bath in the world’s largest singing bowl. But a helicopter ride into the mountains to retrieve a secret USB stick? All we’re saying is, it better end with a martini (shaken, not stirred), because after all this action, you’re going to need one.
Up for the adventure? Rooms at the hotel start at $397/night; the James Bond package, which costs a cool $104,433 can be booked by contacting the hotel directly.
