Brew

Brew will serve loose-leaf tea by day and tea-based cocktails at night—like the English Breakfast Martini.

Tea lovers, rejoice: London may soon be home to a new loose-leaf-focused pub. Brew looks to reignite the prestige behind England's national beverage as a venue that only serves tea by day and tea-based cocktails after hours. The watering hole is currently searching for funding through their campaign on CrowdCube and plans to offer small cakes and other light food options to compliment the brews.

If funded, the pub plans to source their tea directly from growers in India with the profits going straight back to the growing community. They also plan on hiring ex-offenders using the intensive mentoring program SwitchBack. Founder Alex Holland shared a few words on the project with Buzzfeed: “One of the biggest barriers that there is for to people who like tea, and want somewhere nice to go out for it, is that the places to that currently exist to drink tea are too twee. Like hotel tea rooms with doilies, or cafés that are quite ‘keep calm and carry on.' The pub is a classic British institution and will treat tea as a serious drink. Like the way CAMRA treats their beer, we’ll treat our tea that way—with respect.”

The campaign funded 65 percent of its goal in two weeks, so the outlook is good for tea aficionados in London. If you're interested in learning more about Brew or contributing to the campaign, head over to CrowdCube.
