T+L Reports: Bilbao Beds

Like this article?

Style-seekers drawn to Frank Gehry's titanium creation no longer have to contend with Bilbao's famously fusty lodgings. Barcelona designer and cartoonist Javier Mariscal has cast his whimsical eye on the Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao (61 Alameda Mazarredo; 34-944/253-300; www.granhoteldominebilbao.com; doubles from $148). The façade, modestly clad in reflective tiles, belies a dazzlingly hip little lobby and a Bauhaus-inspired café. The 145 guest rooms are stylish and spacious, though high concepts aren't really necessary indoors with the Guggenheim curving outside your window. And did we mention one of Europe's most glamorous rooftop terraces?Meanwhile, just down the road, Catalan fashion designer Antonio Miró is upping the ante with his intimate 50-room Miró Hotel (77 Alameda Mazarredo; 34-902/117-777; www.mirohotelbilbao.com; doubles from $158), which will have black marble, beige leather, and velvet touches throughout.
