Fabulous new beauty products—100 percent TSA approved.
With even historic holdouts now charging checked baggage fees—here’s looking at you, JetBlue—more and more travelers are rethinking the advantages of packing a carry-on. There’s no potential for lost luggage, no hold-up at baggage claim, and (on most airlines) no additional charges. It’s a win-win-win.
The only issue? TSA’s 3-1-1 rule, requiring that liquids brought through security be consolidated to one quart-sized plastic bag and limited to 3.4 ounces per container. That’s barely enough room for a week’s worth of shampoo, conditioner, and face wash, much less a multi-step skincare regimen.
But before you start pawning products off on your significant other, listen up. There’s a wipe for everything.
Gone are the days when “towelettes” (as they’re so often called) were relegated to diaper bags. Now, everything from make-up remover to perfume to deodorant comes in the liquid-free, TSA-approved form. Read on for our favorites.
Yes to Tomatoes Blemish Clearing Facial Wipes
Formulated with salisylic acid and tomato fruit extracts, Yes to Tomatoes facial wipes ($6 for 25 wipes) unclog pores, control oil production, and soothe redness to combat acne-prone skin. Plus, the wipes themselves are fully compostable, keeping with the company's eco-friendly mission.
Whish Deodorant Swipes
There's nothing worse than smelling like an airport. Freshen up en-route with Whish's oat extract-soaked wipes ($22 for 30 wipes) that fight odor while also inhibiting hair growth.
Nomaterra's Fragrance Wipes
With three destination-themed scents—Oahu (notes of gardenia and jasmin), Miami (orange blossom, pink pepper, ylang ylang), and Malibu (vanilla, caramel, honeysuckle)—Nomaterra ($20 for 12 wipes) offers a travel-friendly alternative to packing your perfume bottle.
Butter London Nail Polish Scrubbers
The only thing worse than opening your bag and finding a shampoo spill? Opening your bag to find a nail polish remover explosion. Enter Butter London's Scrubbers ($10 for 10 wipes). These individually-wrapped, 2-in-1 wipes strip away chipped polish, while also prepping nails for a new coat. Or, if glitter's your go-to mani, be sure to check out the line's textured wipes, designed specifically to take off the shiny stuff.
Kate Somerville Tanning Towelettes
A trip to the beach doesn't have to end in a burn. Get your bronze on (no sun required) with Kate Somerville's tanning towelettes ($48 for 8 wipes).
Simple Micellar Makeup Remover Wipes
Francophiles rejoice! Micellar water, a pharmacie cult-favorite, is finally available in a travel-friendly form. Simple's towelettes ($7 for $25) are infused with the stuff and gently wipe away makeup without drying skin.
Ponds Exfoliating Renewal Towelettes
No room in your carry-on for a Clarisonic? Pack these exfoliating wipes instead. The beads gently slough off dead skin, while a citrus-scented cleanser removes makeup and dirt, sans-water.
Acure Argan Oil Cleansing Towelettes
Stuck in an unplanned layover? Take a bird-bath mid-terminal with Acure's Argan Oil Cleansing Towelettes ($7 for 30). All-natural, unscented, and biodegradable, the face-and-body wipes cleanse and refresh, no shower necessary.
