T+L Web Pick

Return to main article

Here, T+L’s favorite Web sites for scoring the best online deals.

Luxurylink.com
Best For Discounts on high-end hotel and travel packages worldwide. You save the most through deals with auction-style pricing, but many fixed-rate specials also offer significant discounts. Sample Savings We found a four-night package at the Raleigh in Miami Beach, that included a room upgrade, breakfast and dinner for two, use of a poolside cabana, and more, for $2,029, versus a retail price of $3,124.

Kayak.com and Sidestep.com
Best For Cruise packages. To find the lowest fares, try both sites: Kayak searches among leading online cruise agencies, and Sidestep tracks current prices via third-party vendors’ Web sites. Sample Savings On Sidestep, we found a seven-night western Caribbean cruise on Carnival from $479, up to 68 percent off brochure rates; Kayak had a seven-day eastern Mediterranean cruise from $839, a 53 percent discount.

Cfares.com
Best For Airfares. The site searches airline databases, travel agents, and wholesalers for international airfare deals. A Gold membership is free; a Platinum membership, at $50 a year, finds even lower unpublished fares. Sample Savings A New York–to-Frankfurt flight in mid-May showed a Gold-level rate of $614 round-trip and a Platinum fare of $569; the lowest comparable round-trip by a leading online agency was $634, on Orbitz.
