England Founded in 1683, the Ashmolean Museumof Art and Archaeology at Oxford University has treasures that span the history of mankind,from Minoan artifacts and English silver to an outstanding collection of drawings by Raphael andsome of the most important pre-dynastic Egyptian antiquities in Europe. A major redevelopment byModernist architect Rick Mather opens on November 7, doubling the Ashmolean’s exhibitionspace with 39 new galleries of permanent themed collections, an education center, and a rooftoprestaurant linked to the present museum, an 1845 Neoclassical structure by Charles Cockerell.
