While most of Dubai's retail landscape is a paean to high-end conspicuous consumption, Five Green (Garden Home, Oud Metha Rd.; 971-4/336-4100; www.fivegreen.com) is the first United Arab Emirates concept store devoted to urban street-wear and art sourced from all over the world. Inside the loftlike concrete, glass, and steel emporium, designed by hometown architect Khaled Al Najjar (of DXB Lab), you'll find exotic CD's, provocative art books, and edgy magazines alongside clothing and accessories from Paris (Lielle), Amsterdam (GSUS), and Australia (Tsubi). Already a hit—London- based Aei Kei's jersey-and-sequined top that can be worn several different ways and handbags made from ghutras (head scarves for men) by local design house Pink Sushi. Shahi and Shehab Hamad, Five Green's owners, host avant-garde performances and installations on site. This month, there's an exhibition of abstract paintings by Iraqi artist Ali Hirmizi. —lauren david peden
