Anguilla’s New Hotels

Like this article?

The story of Anguilla is happily a sleepy one: a tiny British territory remains pristine thanks to regulated development and three small but special resorts. (Do Cap Juluca, CuisinArt, and Malliouhana ring any bells?) But with the 2009 arrival of two highly anticipated properties, the tale takes a decidedly glitzy twist. First up, the 172-room Viceroy Anguilla (800/357-1930; viceroyanguilla.com) will bring designer Kelly Wearstler’s signature Hollywood Regency style to a 35-acre stretch of beachfront at the junction of Meads and Barnes bays in the spring. And next summer will see the debut of the über-luxe Baccarat Hotel (800/567-1845) from Barry Sternlicht, the mastermind behind Starwood’s W, St. Regis, and Luxury Collection chains. Part of the exclusive Temenos villa compound, the hotel will have a Greg Norman golf course, a David Bouley restaurant, and—but of course—Baccarat crystal everywhere.
