America's Most Beautiful Landmarks
Belle of Louisville Steamboat, Louisville, KY
This beauty harkens back to the days when steam-powered boats traveled from town to town along the country’s big rivers. Built in 1914, the wedding cake–like steamboat is the oldest one still operating in the United States and a designated National Historic Landmark. It makes its home these days in the Ohio River in downtown Louisville’s waterfront park.
How to See It: It used to carry passengers and cargo to ports along the Ohio River; today you can still experience the Belle’s bright red paddle wheel in action during lunch and dinner cruises.
