America's Best Flea Markets: Shipshewana

Shipshewana Auction and Flea Market, IN

At the nearly century-old Shipshewana Auction and Flea Market, 900 booths hawk mass-produced basics (plastic sunglasses, value packs of undershirts), secondhand scores (costume jewelry and glassware), and handmade goods (rocking chairs, quilts)—many of which are sold by Amish farmers from the surrounding counties to supplement the income from their crops. On that note, don’t miss the produce stands near the entrance or the fresh blueberry pies at the Auction Restaurant, a market fixture since 1950.

Tip: You can almost make a meal of the generous samples at Yoder’s Meat and Cheese Co. next door, which sells 150 cuts of the former and 100 varieties of the latter.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8 a.m.–5 p.m., May through October. Free admission; parking $3.
