For microbrew lovers, the City of Roses is more like the Hub for Hops. Widmer Brothers, Bridgeport, and Bend, OR, transplant Deschutes are among the standard-bearers. More recent arrivals include Hopworks, whose eco-friendly BikeBar is powered by customers on stationary bikes, and Commons Brewery, which offers European-style farmhouse beers made in a nano-brewery. (Nanos generally make batches of fewer than four barrels, but Commons has now grown to a seven-barrel system.) In this offbeat foodie city, the ice cream parlor Salt & Straw even offers a “six pack” of scoops flavored with locals beers.
