Less than six months after jumping into the hotel booking business, Amazon has already bowed out. Amazon Destinations, the online shopping behemoth’s travel portal, has posted a notice on its landing page that the site has stopped selling hotel reservations as of October 13. The website also announces that Amazon has quit selling reservations on its Amazon Local app as well.

When Amazon Destinations launched in April, the site’s mission was to go beyond the discounted hotel stays that Amazon had been dabbling with for years and offer handpicked destinations with more control given to hotel owners. Now The Seattle Times — which was first to report the site’s shutter — notes that Amazon has only released the following short statement by way of explanation: “We have learned a lot and have decided to discontinue Amazon Destinations.”

Fortunately for those who have already made reservations through Amazon Destinations, the site indicates that all existing reservations are “valid and will be honored by the hotel.” Customers don’t need to take any actions in light of this news.

TechCrunch notes that both the launch and loss of Amazon Destinations comes “around the same time as Amazon was attempting to expand its footprint into people’s daily lives” with branches like Amazon Home Services. That marketplace for finding everything from house cleaning to home gym assembly is still operating.
