If you love baby animals — specifically baby giraffes — start planning a trip to Des Moines, Iowa.
The Blank Park Zoo just welcomed the baby girl to the family on December 6. The baby, who the zoo has since named Lizzy, is already more than six feet tall. The pregnancy had previously been described as “high-risk,” but both the mother and child have been healthy since the birth.
Just last week, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) released a report on endangered animals. According to The Guardian, “giraffes have seen a 38 percent decline in their numbers since 1985, falling from about 157,000 to 97,500 today,” earning them a spot on the IUCN's Red List. Here's to hoping we see many more adorable giraffes being born in the near future.
